Until Spencer throws her arm out and Mona skids ungracefully to a halt, the unpleasant deja vu as she remembers the same electric fence incident from a few days ago. Whatever lies between them, she trusts Spencer's judgment enough in this moment to stop, panting slightly as her eyes scan the woods for whatever Spencer's spotted.
A thrill of fear goes through her when she sees it too. Definitely bigger than a dog. She holds perfectly still for the moment, as if moving will prompt the wolf to attack, trying to process what this means. They're not in the southern hemisphere, probably. They're either very far from home or A has the sort of preserve that can house captive carnivores. They have something else to worry about, on top of the fire and fog and horrified screaming and the risk of getting dragged back underground.
It's the last one more than the others that makes Mona react the way she does, drawing on ancient knowledge gleamed from Animal Planet and survivalist novels. She spreads her legs in a wide stance, showing off her own filthy silk prom dress (it was pink, a few days ago) and holds her arms out to the side as far as she can, making all five foot two inches of her body take up as much space as possible, and she yells at the wolf in wordless rage.
