eternalmisery: (Scared - I Glances)

Definitely border patrol. [Even if it didn't seem like something A would do, Spencer figures that a wild wolf would have a nearby pack and be moving away from all the chaos in the clearing yonder. Although, who knows. Maybe it's just lingering to feast on the carnage that'll be left behind.

Spencer doesn't want to be any of that carnage, but it's starting to feel more and more inevitable the more and more the wolf doesn't back down. Still trying to hold the wolf's gaze, Spencer puts a hand to Mona's shoulder and starts to try and direct her to go back towards the fairgrounds.

We can hide somewhere and wait it out. Come on. [That's better than going north, probably, even though that would mean hunkering down in what feels like a death trap.

She pauses and bends down to pick up a rock the size of a big orange, even though bending down makes her look smaller than Mona and like a potentially more appealing target. If the wolf lunges, she could maybe try to throw it and scare it off. If not, at least she's (pathetically) closer to being armed; Mona at least has that broken-off arrow stashed in her outfit.

Let's just back up slowly and find a place between the fair and...the wolf...to weather everything.

[The pessimistic part of Spencer already knows she's trapped, trapped in A's game, trapped in her friendship with Alison before that - she can see so clearly that no matter what escapes she tries to come up with, she's going to be corralled north. She's going to remain at the whims of whomever is doing this to them. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here...

But when people cite that quote, they forget what comes right before it. In Dante's poem, the words are written on a gate crafted by loving hands, a monument to Babylonian justice. Before me things created were none, save those eternal, and eternal I endure.

Hell is a strange place to take solace, but Spencer can't think of anything more fitting for the month she's just had. Eternal she endures, indeed.

It's just a dog.
