Caroline leads the way, wadding up extra fabric from her dress to staunch the blood from her injury. The smoke and fog makes it hard to find where north is, and Caroline doesn't have a compass on her.
They might have to wait until some of the smoke clears, which means hunkering down while these horrible creatures that fill the air with ambient depression and trauma. Caroline finds a large shop cart that's been overturned but seems far enough away from any of the smoldering fires or the thick of the action. She ducks behind it and opens the door to make it a barrier to one side.
"Here, Cammie. Cammie. Let's wait here until my shoulder heals up. It should only take a few minutes." Caroline sits down with her back to the barrier in tentative safety. "Are you okay? It looked like one got you really badly."
