He makes a few feints, and circles her, obviously sizing up his supernatural opponent before unleashing his assault upon her. Better to know her measure, first. He does seem to be trying to keep himself between Tim and the one he's squared off with, so she can't strike him down while he's occupied with the other. Apparently the warrior is used to fighting in teams, instantly trusting his own back to Tim without a word.
