[Mona's as surprised as anyone that Spencer steps in front of her-- not that she really worried that Spencer would, say, shove her forward and run, but there's a world of difference between throwing Mona to the lions and actually stepping between them. And maybe that's why Mona doesn't turn around and leave her to it; why, instead of grabbing her skirts and fleeing through the forest, she just holds her breath as the monster takes a closer step.

And then Spencer lets loose with the rock. As soon as it leaves Spencer's hand and she's no longer at risk of throwing off her aim, Mona tugs on the back of Spencer's dress. Whether the rock lands or not, it's the best distraction they'll get.] Run!
