She can tell he's working within the toolkit he has for appeasing elder mages, and - though he wouldn't admit it and wouldn't thank her for pointing it out - that he desperately doesn't want her alienated and turning away and leaving him alone. :I am glad I was not born, either time, in your world,: she says instead, which is also true. No Healing without divine providence? Might as well say fire gives no light.
She also wants to do something about these thoughts about hope, and doesn't know if that's 'shove him' or 'be kind'. Probably both. If it's called for Need can spin a painfully earnest speech with the best of them but it's not called for now, and at best this boy would listen just enough to humor her while thinking she was talking nonsense.
