Turn All The Lights On

Who: Elle and any other teens who want to join!
What: The adults are busy partying, so who's going to stop the teens from doing the same?
Where:Rivendell
When: The fourth night in Rivendell
Warnings/Notes: Underage drinking, recreational alcohol use, teens acting rowdy

Elle walks into Dan's party, hangs around for a little bit, then walks back out. To say that it's not really her scene is an understatement. While she's doing her awkward wallflower act, she does notice a few of the other teens get escorted out of the area. Which gives her an idea...

Most of the adults are here and they've already taken care of getting booze... who's to stop her from throwing her own party?

The first thing she does is go to Caroline, who seems to be scarily good at organizing things. Together (while roping in any of the other kids they find along the way) they find a suitable place, set up the area, ask Bumblebee to DJ, and acquire booze & snacks. After that, it's just a matter of tracking everyone else down and letting them know.

I. Bring the booze

Elle managed to smuggle a couple of crates of booze from the other party, so they're all set up drink-wise. She will be keeping an eye on the alcohol to make sure that the younger kids don't have too much.

II. I ain't got nothin' to lose

Strip poker, why not? Elle isn't quite sure how it got started, if it was one of them or one of the teen Elves that got invited, but someone started taking clothes off when they lost a hand and it's all just devolving from there.

III. Put your hands up if you're going hard

Dancing, obviously. They actually have someone blasting music, so it would be shameful if they didn't dance. The teens and the Elves are teaching each other moves, and there is definitely a dance circle at one point.

IV. This must be her song

Karaoke? Karaoke. Who cares if you're any good, it's time to belt whatever song you think you can do best (or get people to sing along with so they can't hear you). There's no microphone and Bumblebee only knows songs from the 80s and earlier, but it's still a damn good time.

[Ange Ushiromiya hasn't ever been to a party, and it took only a few minutes for her to realize she doesn't like them too much. But she stays. She took a decision to try to mingle and bond with the others more, and that includes making an attempt to do so. Here she is!

Once time passes, though, her opinion begins changing. It's not so bad! And it's nice to be included. But perhaps she shouldn't go to them too often.

Unfortunately, regardless of the day, Ange still doesn't feel with much strength to be moving around. She does come, though! Sitting near the karaoke, near Bumblebee. This is going to be a time!]

Karaoke

[A little tidbit: Ange has no idea about music. Popular songs, the songs girls her age would listen to, the songs she should know...she knows nothing about any of them. That's why she sat near there, to listen and try to have an idea about music]

...what's that song? Why did you chose to bellow that one?

[Perhaps she should have used a word different to 'bellow', but she doesn't mean it as an insult, or even as an objective fact. She just has the impression that's what you're meant to do in karaoke -- sing it to the top of your lungs, quality be damned! That's what makes it fun, right?]

[At some point, once people stopped the strip poker, she managed to take a deck of cards. Looking at it, Ange turned it in her hands, considering it for a moment, and tried to shuffle the deck. Whooops! Her dexterity isn't very good. It falls to the floor]

[Let her just...pick it up. Looking up, she comments]

I don't see why I shouldn't be capable of having a poker face. If you don't impose on me the penalty of taking off clothes, I'd like to test that theory.

[It should be interesting, she thinks. Ange likes to think she's measured, calm, and guarded with her emotions. That should make her able to do well at poker, right?]

I. Bring the booze
Mio sees people try to drink and it's not like she is succumbing to peer pressure, but she feels compelled to try. She pours the liquor in her glass, and stares down at it for a moment.

Ah, there it is, the crippling guilt. It's way too common, the 'drinking to forget' expression, maybe she really is a coward that is trying to forget what she did to Mayu. She's a terrible person, perhaps the Tattooed Priestess is right to haunt her, to chase her down those scary halls in her dreams.

Besides, she and Mayu have always done everything together, and trying alcohol is a first time, something that they were supposed to experience together. This is like adding insult to injury.

At the same time, she doesn't want to be difficult, and doing this might help her get along with others, to be an important asset in other ways besides wielding the camera, to prove she is trustworthy. She turns to the person sitting next to her.

"Ever tried this stuff?"

1. Bring the Booze

Cammie's been to parties before. Sort of. Ether ones, mostly. And that one hurricane party, back in De Soto, with the ice cream hurricanes and beer she wasn't allowed to drink. So, okay, she's been to parties, but not really the kind of parties where she's able to drink, for one reason or another.

Her teammates have always been total squares about it, and that... hits a little different, now, after the trip home, but she's not letting that discourage her from trying to have fun here and now. So, she has some beer, and she's relaxing, sitting around for now just watching things get going.

Nugget, her little robot friend that joined her after her trip back home, is... also enjoying himself. By climbing into her drink. Cammie isn't even reacting, and it's hard to tell if it's because she hasn't noticed, or sees no reason to discourage him.

But there he goes. Head-first into the liquid with a little sploot.

2. Age Rating

"Okay, okay, here's a question."

Cammie may be a little bit tipsy, at this point. Not drunk, thank you, she's specifically not going to go there because she thinks that'd end in tears with her emotional state lately, but a little bit... looser. Definitely a little louder. Shhh, Cammie.

"How the fuck do you decide how old you are when— when it's been almost 18 months since you had a birthday, but you still haven't had your next birthday? ...does that make sense?"

It does not, particularly, make sense, she's sure. Look, the age cut-off on the other party just has her thinking about the weirdness that is her personal timeline, after being yanked home then dropped back in the Wilderlands again. Is she actually 18, now? Or is she still 17 for a while longer on a technicality?

She has no bloody clue. Time to crowdsource a verdict.

3. Put your hands up if you're going hard

It takes her a while to loosen up enough to try and join in on the dancing, but she will, and once she's up on her feet she doesn't have much shame. She never really has, she's not a shy girl, just— awkward, sometimes, and a bit insecure about some things.

Her dancing isn't exactly top class, but at least she seems relaxed, like she's having fun. Anyone who caught her public outburst and crying might realise that's no small thing.

I. [ Tommy arrived with two bottle of elven wine, because Dan Sagittarius is an idiot. He's keeping them, and while he'll gladly pour a glass from them if anyone wants some, he is drinking directly from the bottles. This is both because he can, and because the elves are shifty as fuck - nobody is that polite and constrained all the time. It's weird, all right? They're creepy. It's a good idea to watch your drink at a party no matter where you are. He's pretty content to just chill and chat and drink - increasingly more so as the night goes on, because the wine's got him feeling all warm and loose. ]

II. [ He heard someone shout "strip poker" and immediately headed over to the table. Tommy slams his bottle on the table, spins a chair backwards, and drops into it. ]

I'm in. I've got lots of clothes and no shame.

[ And a reason to make sure this party gets every bit as wild as anything the old folks home can manage. ]

OTHER. [ It's late. The first bottle of wine is long gone, and the second bottle nearly so, albeit with help. Tommy hasn't had to stand up in awhile, but, now that he has, everything immediately starts tilting. He's been getting louder and more talkative, anyone listening would've noticed the slur in his voice, but to him it's like he stood up at the speed of light. The edges of his vision are spinning, and his stomach doesn't feel so hot. But, on the whole, Tommy feels great as he staggers two feet to the left. ]

Whoo!

[Miles may not be so keen on the drinking. Or stripping. But dancing? Music? Yeah. He could enjoy that. He might not be so sure on what music is available, but that doesn't stop him trying to let loose and distract himself. Get to know people more. This time, as Miles. Given most of the time otherwise he's been running around in his suit, before getting to Rivendell for the most part.

It might not entirely be his thing, might be new for Miles but he isn't about to not at least pop in to check out the party all the same. He might join in on some dancing, gesturing and encouraging others to dance as well, or joining with the karaoke, laughing at some of the choices available.]

[Elle's been flitting around the party, making sure nobody needs anything, and thinks it's about time she settles and starts having fun herself. When she sees Tommy boisterously join a game of strip poker, she's had jsut enough to drink to think it's a great idea.

She grabs a drink and takes the empty seat next to him.]

Deal me in. I've only ever played sober and I wanna see how I do.

[She flashes Tommy a friendly grin.]

Elle isn't drunk either, but she's definitely loosened up significantly from her usual somewhat-uptight self. When she hears Cammie complaining about tracking her age she knows she has to get in on this conversation, because Elle has some complaints.

"I'd say fuck it and go with whatever's more convenient at the time. That's what I do, at least. Like, am I 18? Am I 19? Fuck... am I two years old?" she turns to Cammie, horrified. "Cammie. Am I two?"

Okay. Maybe Elle's a little more drunk than she thought.

The sudden horror in the question startles a snort laugh out of Cammie that almost has her spitting a sip of her drink out, only to end in her almost choking instead before she clears her throat.

"Well you sure don't look two. I dinnae think you can be two? You got like half a foot on me, that'd be a real big—" okay, absolutely not the point, get back on track, brain, "why'd you— why two?"

[ Tim slides into the seat opposite Ange and smiles. ]

I’ll play too, if it’s not strip poker. We can use pebbles for chips, but we’re going to need more than two people for a real game. One-on-one wouldn’t be any fun.

You got it.

[ Tommy doesn’t call her cutie or girl, nor does he do any obvious, head-to-toe glance over, but he meets her eyes and holds them with a wide, appreciative smile that scrunches his own green eyes. It’s clearly that she is more than welcome to join, and he’s thrilled by the company. ]

What do you think? Five card stud, aces and deuces wild? I want dramatic reveals and plot twists with my partial nudity.

[Elle does give Tommy a glance over because she knows how to play this game. (Is the game poker or flirting? Yes.)]

Seven card stud, follow the queen.

[There's a hint of a tease in her voice.]

"That's when I was," she waggles her fingers to demonstrate magical fucker-y "reborn."

She stops waggling but forgets to put her hand down. "I guess three, because there's that year I'm not sure if I should count. I didn't age, and it didn't really happen, but also it did because I'm a full-fledged cat so," she shrugs.

It's a really a pain in the ass to keep track of. She can't imagine what it's like for Isaac with all that alternate reality shit in his head. (Well, she spends a not insignificant portion of time in his head, so she can, but that's not the point.)

[ Definitely yes, please. Maybe he got kicked out of the other party, but this party is looking up. ]

Anywhere you want, your majesty.

[ Tommy snags the deck and starts shuffling the cards. ]

So, what are we using as chips, or are we just going with loser loses one piece of clothing, last one to their undies wins?

You probably have a point there. There would be little bluffing involved if only two were playing, wouldn't there?

[Makes sense. Leaving the deck on the table, Ange looks around]

There has to be someone else who is willing to give this a try.

[ Tim tries to suppress a smile. ]

But you should try to seem clueless when you’re asking people to play. Don’t overdo it, but make them think you either need them to teach you or that you’re easy to beat.

"Re— Reborn. Reborn? Wow, okay, that sounds bloody wild. An' then a freaky not-year on top of that... oh, god, maybe you are two. Or three. Or— or something. Fully grown two-three year old. What the fuck. "

She plants her elbows on the surface in front of her, still nursing her drink in both hands and sort of talking around the rim of it after taking a sip.

"An' I thought I had it complicated with tryna cover an extra six months that shouldnae exist..." A beat. Her ears tilt sideways. "...oh, man, Weller called us uploadin' for the first time another birthday, do I count that...? Is every time we upload a new us 'cause we're all just bein' copied back and forth or... or..."

That quickly descends into incomprehensible mumbling into her cup.

So you're supposed to try to fool them even before the game begins...

[Makes sense. Ange takes a deep breath and tries her best to look like she doesn't know anything at all.

It's...a bit of a mixed result. She doesn't have any idea how someone who knows nothing would look like! Makes her look instead like she's pretty nervous -- which, all things considered, also should work, no?

Accidental success, this one]

"I mean. That depends on whether what you consider to be "you"," complete with air quotes "your body or your mind? Like, where does my body go when I go into the spirit realm? I no longer have a physical form, is my body destroyed? Time passes in the Material Realm, but not at the same rate. People have spent years there then popped out and it was only days, or were only there for days and popped out and it had been years. But I'm part spirit, so I guess my Umbral form is still me in a different way than your internet-sona is you."

Elle has a problem with tangents and rambling when she's sober, and she's definitely not sober anymore.

"It's like that philosophical question," Elle loves debating philosophical questions.

"If you have a teleporter that works by copying people, destroying the original, and forming the copy at a different location and the teleporter malfunctions and fails to destroy the original, which is the "real"," more air quotes "person?"

You wouldn't be able to tell that she's drunk by looking at her other than a slight flush to her cheeks. Hell, her speech isn't all that different from usual. The main difference is that she isn't really taking breaths when she speaks, as if she's trying to get it all out of her head at once.

[Elle winks and watches his hands carefully for any funny business. If he's going to cheat, that gives her free reign to do the same.]

Loser strips at the end of the round, but they have to say what they're betting at the ante. They can bet more in the intervals if they're feeling confident.

[Is she making this needlessly complicated? Absolutely. That's half of the fun.

She leans her elbows on the table and props up her head with her hands. The angle gives Tommy just a hint of skin past her dress's neckline. It's absolutely a tease.]

Feeling lucky?

"Ye gods, magic-y an' spirt-y stuff sounds so complicated when it's actually real. Way to make time even more fake. Spirit-y you does sounds like it's its whole own— category, but... I think— I think my mind's me? Not body? I feel like me in my Holon; couldnae even handle being so— so propor— proport... too tall, had to make it shorter to fit."

Even not all the way to what she'd call drunk, some word choices are apparently just beyond her. 'Proportionally', she was proportionally too tall as her Holon before she shortened its legs.

"No, aye, mind is 'us', gotta be. My one teammate s'not even got a meatspace body anymore. He's all just— his mind, but code. In the robot. An' he was a copy, too, like—" Now it's Cammie's turn to have a look of sudden horror. "Oh, wow, I think we are the teleporter question. Chase was a bloody copy that was never meant to be used until the version of him uploaded was kidnapped. An' then the Union copied him sum'more! There were hundreds of him... what the fuuuuck..."

"It's so complicated, Cammie. It's, like, all the esoteric bullshit of religion and cosmology, except it's also real and science."

The rules change depending on an unending amount of factors and Elle has found that the approach of 'just try not to fuck up terribly' works pretty well. For her, at least.

"That's so many of one dude. What the fuck."

[ No funny business here. He can shuffle with a nice bridge, but he’s not a shark and, like, he has his pride when it comes to stuff like this. Besides, where’s the fun if they don’t all lose a little? ]

Sounds about right to me. We going head to head, or does anybody else want in on this?

[ Tommy doesn’t necessarily want to share her attention because, wow. He may be out of his league here.

[On the other hand, he's at least not a bad looking dude so like, no big, right? And Elle's definitely kinda hot.]

[Kon hops into a chair.]

Deal me in. What are we playing?

[Elle is delighted when Kon sits down.]

I take it back, better make it five card stud, follow the queen.

[She gives Kon and Tommy significant looks at the word 'stud'.

And Elle is hot. She's well-aware of that fact and has used it to her advantage many times. She knows she looks stunning in the white dress she's wearing. She's using all of this to her advantage.]

Will she ever not relate things to video games? All signs point to no.

"It's so bloody many! We've been fightin' them off for months it's freakin' insane! They just don't stop comin'! It's ridiculous. Terrifyin', dinnae get me wrong, but ridiculous. My life's a grimdark mecha anime, I swear to fuck."

She's definitely got just enough alcohol in her to be more casual about that than actually grim, rather than so much that she's diving headfirst into the grim. She actually laughs, because seriously, what is her life? That doesn't even get into how they're drinking booze in Rivendell at a stop on some weird magical quest!
