Turn All The Lights On

Who: Elle and any other teens who want to join!
What: The adults are busy partying, so who's going to stop the teens from doing the same?
Where:Rivendell
When: The fourth night in Rivendell
Warnings/Notes: Underage drinking, recreational alcohol use, teens acting rowdy

Elle walks into Dan's party, hangs around for a little bit, then walks back out. To say that it's not really her scene is an understatement. While she's doing her awkward wallflower act, she does notice a few of the other teens get escorted out of the area. Which gives her an idea...

Most of the adults are here and they've already taken care of getting booze... who's to stop her from throwing her own party?

The first thing she does is go to Caroline, who seems to be scarily good at organizing things. Together (while roping in any of the other kids they find along the way) they find a suitable place, set up the area, ask Bumblebee to DJ, and acquire booze & snacks. After that, it's just a matter of tracking everyone else down and letting them know.

I. Bring the booze

Elle managed to smuggle a couple of crates of booze from the other party, so they're all set up drink-wise. She will be keeping an eye on the alcohol to make sure that the younger kids don't have too much.

II. I ain't got nothin' to lose

Strip poker, why not? Elle isn't quite sure how it got started, if it was one of them or one of the teen Elves that got invited, but someone started taking clothes off when they lost a hand and it's all just devolving from there.

III. Put your hands up if you're going hard

Dancing, obviously. They actually have someone blasting music, so it would be shameful if they didn't dance. The teens and the Elves are teaching each other moves, and there is definitely a dance circle at one point.

IV. This must be her song

Karaoke? Karaoke. Who cares if you're any good, it's time to belt whatever song you think you can do best (or get people to sing along with so they can't hear you). There's no microphone and Bumblebee only knows songs from the 80s and earlier, but it's still a damn good time.

[ Tim slides into the seat opposite Ange and smiles. ]

I’ll play too, if it’s not strip poker. We can use pebbles for chips, but we’re going to need more than two people for a real game. One-on-one wouldn’t be any fun.

You probably have a point there. There would be little bluffing involved if only two were playing, wouldn't there?

[Makes sense. Leaving the deck on the table, Ange looks around]

There has to be someone else who is willing to give this a try.

Please don’t take this the wrong way.

[ Tim tries to suppress a smile. ]

But you should try to seem clueless when you’re asking people to play. Don’t overdo it, but make them think you either need them to teach you or that you’re easy to beat.

So you're supposed to try to fool them even before the game begins...

[Makes sense. Ange takes a deep breath and tries her best to look like she doesn't know anything at all.

It's...a bit of a mixed result. She doesn't have any idea how someone who knows nothing would look like! Makes her look instead like she's pretty nervous -- which, all things considered, also should work, no?

Accidental success, this one]

Like...this, perhaps?

Yeah, you want to confuse them so they don’t get a good sense of how you normally act before you start playing. That way, if you have a tell when you bluff, they won’t know.

[ He might be helping her beat him, but Tim wants everyone to play their best.

Although it looks like they’re up against another game that’s going to play strip poker, so “everyone” might just be the two of them.

What’s really annoying is that Kon is at that table, with Elle and Tommy. Tim gives the table a flat-mouthed Look.
]

I don’t think we’re going to get a lot of players if we’re competing against that game.

I don't get at all the appeal of forcing others to strip during a card game, unless the purpose is to humiliate them in public.

[Yeah, she has been sideeyeing the other table so hard, but admittedly that's colored so hard by her cynicism. She's pretty sure if her classmates had thought of this, they'd have come up with a plan to force her into something similar]

[Little Cato practically bounds into a chair with them. Despite how badly he was hurt and how much longer it took to recover, he's the type to push himself and then regret it later. So that means moments of jumping around and being slightly hyperactive and then needing to lay down and just be dead for a while.]

Is this table going to keep their clothes on or is it another table full of exhibitionist weirdos?

[He shoots the freaks at the next table over a squinty look.]

Because I'm good at cards but not a total freak.

Clothes stay on here and that's non-negotiable!

[Thank goodness, Little Cato is against it too, that makes three in this party. Part of Ange wonders if maybe the adults' party has strip poker, and dearly hopes over there the adults of the camping crew aren't ready to throw off their clothes in public in the blink of an eye. While she's all for finding out the truth no matter how painful they are, this one is a truth she'd rather not find out, haha]

Join us, as long as you don't mind playing against two complete beginners.

[She's pretty sure Tim is experienced enough, but hey, he advised about making themselves look like they don't know what they're doing. Ange says that convincingly enough]

Clothes are definitely staying on here.

[ Tim starts to shuffle the cards, just a good, clean shuffle that’s almost flaunting how little opportunity there is for him to do anything hokey with the deck. ]

Let’s play Texas hold’em. I know how to deal it, and there’s no drawing or anything weird to keep track of. We can rotate the dealer.

[Little Cato's face scrunches up as he goes through his mental list of card games and shady ways to cheat at them. His father prepared him well.]

[That's 2 hole cards, five community cards. Community cards are in 3 deals - 3 cards (the flop), then one (4th street), then one (fifth street). Options: check, call, raise, or fold.]

[Best cheating methods: card marking (which he can do with the tiniest indent with a claw), card counting (shuffle tracking is easier than card tracking) and stealing Aces with sleight of paw on the discard. Tim seems to know what he's doing but he's just some smart kid, right? Kind of goody-goody energy. What are the chances he knows how to spot cheating? And he overheard enough to figure out Ange might even be new.]

So what are the rules? And what are we betting?

[He said he was good at cards but not that he knows this specific game. They don't need to know that.]

Usual rules, no changes.

[Ange proceeds to explain the rules of the game, attempting to recall it accurately. Of course she hasn't seen people play her right in front of her, but she has absorbed enough from osmosis to have awareness of how it's played.

Pretty easy to see from the explanation she's not some sort of poker ace, though. It's all pretty simplified, avoiding most terms someone far more experienced would use]

I have plenty of dates from the ruins of that town. They're valuable while on the road. I'm willing to bet from that.

[Sweet, relatively rare, and full of everything that keeps you walking during a trip like this one. It's not too bad of a bounty]

[ Tim nods along with the rules, but Ange covered the bases and the stakes are low enough, if she’s betting dates, that no ones going to suffer if they don’t know the nuances. ]

We can each bet what we have. I’ll bet carrying something for you when we travel. One date is worth one pack for a mile, or a half mile piggyback ride, but no stacking them when you use them up. Sound fair?

[ It’s a manageable distance for him, and there’s not a lot of sweet things in the group’s goods. ]

Sounds fair.

[Dates and favors and all...]

I'm betting money.

[He pulls out a little pouch that jangles and puts it on the table.]

I'll just use the little copper ones. I asked and the gold and silver ones are actually worth stuff.

Throwing your spare change at us? Sure, that works.

[If Ange had access to her accursed fortune she'd be throwing bundles of cash even though she probably would lose it all, that's for sure, hah.

She leaves the deck of cards in front of Tim -- her stabbed shoulder, still in the process of healing, would get in the way of her dexterity, really. She has no idea how to shuffle cards properly with one hand, if that's even possible]

Let's get this started. Do the honors, Tim.

[ Tim deals each of them 2 cards, face down. Since they have some new-ish players, he'll narrate a little how this goes, but he won't give card-specific advice once the community cards start showing. ]

Check your cards without showing them, and this is your only chance to fold without being on the hook for at least a 1 unit ante.

[ He does a quick corner only lift of his cards: two of clubs and eight of hearts so... not a great start. But they're here to have fun. ]

I'm in.
