HOME SWEET HOME
Elrond let the gang decide when to leave, providing hospitality and medical care until they're ready. When the quest calls to them and they know it'll tug them along soon, he makes sure each is fully supplied and armed with weapons of their choosing, some custom made. They each have a pack, food supplies, and extra clothing. All of them get offered sturdy boots, even those who have stranger body types like Filbo.
He gives the group four copies of a book transcribed with the prophecies that had been brought to Rivendell, to be studied and interpreted on their journey.
Those who mentioned knowledge of the One Ring are briefly pulled aside away from the guests at Elrond's Council. They're implored to keep it secret, for the knowledge of Frodo's task could lead to people trying to steal the Ring when he's on a journey to destroy it.
Crowley is also released from the dungeon, with Elrond apologizing for the Elves' caution. It's at least clear he's been shown some of the same hospitality. He's healed up, well fed, and clothed in replacement clothes just like they all are.
Elrond's final goodbye to the whole group is warm and genuine.
"Namárië. It is a word we use for greetings and goodbyes. It means 'be well.' Whether you seek to help this world or try to find a way home, it is our hope that whatever paths you tread fly beneath your feet, and whatever obstacles you face are quickly overcome."
A pause.
"It would be easy to try to make you feel that the hopes of those in this new world go with you; but such burdens should only be carried by those who choose it. The Green will not admit it, but they have done you a great wrong. If you try to only find your way home, it's justified, and I hope you do find it."
Yes, there are prophecies, but making people do something by force is wrong, and all weary travelers deserve to find their way home. After a brief time of saying any goodbyes, they get to make their way to the other side of the valley. On the other side of the pass is the castle the Green spoke about.
The castle is a Frankenstein monstrosity that seems cobbled together from many buildings and machines. The second the last of the gang piles inside, it starts moving, massive legs clanking along. But where it's going is unknown. At least that means they have time to explore, rest, and get settled.
There are many mystical objects and mysteries within. One half of the castle seems to be a strange frozen realm of faerie, with strange sights to explore. But even the warmer side of the castle has its oddities. Magic waterfalls that show memories, and a scrying pool that shows frozen images of home, locked to the times each member of the squad left theirs. There are magical doors that lead to sights beyond the imagination, strange collections and even entire small realms, some beautiful, some dangerous.
The three magical creatures, Jonald, Ronald, and Rolkien constantly get underfoot trying to get the group settled, but refuse to talk about their former master, seemingly hurt at his leaving the castle.
The castle also seems to like assigning roommates for some of the group, making it so doors only open to their assigned room anytime they try to go to a place to sleep, even teleporting to them to the room if they fall asleep elsewhere.
It's a strange place, sometimes dangerous, sometimes annoying, but at least they have even more time to rest, train, plan, and prepare. They will have a few weeks to adjust to their new normal.
Then...who knows where the road will take them.
❧ Prompts. The mods aren't doing prompts, but players can check out the page on the Moving castle for inspiration. The castle has many mysteries and oddities and absolutely anything can be behind the magical doors.
❧ Food and water. The castle seems to have an internal pressurized water supply and food is plentiful...for now. The food supply will not last forever but some food was left behind by the castle's previous occupants. There there's enough for a long break without hunting. There is some fresh food that's rotten and needs to be thrown away but whoever lived here clearly knew how to keep food prepared. There are cooking oils, flour, and sugar for bread and baked goods. There is jerky of various types of meats, dried fruit, sun-dried tomatoes, stores of nuts, jars of preserved fruit and jams (and empty jars to make more), and hard cheeses that need only a little mold cut off them to still be edible. Some of the jars have confit, meat cooked and preserved in lard, or garlic preserved in oil. A small root cellar has a few barrels of potatoes, parsnips, and onions.
It also has some barrels of beer and bottles of wine.
There are also dried herbs hanging in bundles from the kitchen ceiling, jarred pickled vegetables, and vinegar for pickling more. There are also fresh veggies the group can harvest together. The gardens will not be infinite in supplying the group but luck has it that many vegetables are ripe for harvest right now. The squad can pick juicy tomatoes, green beans, peppers, carrots, radishes, blackberries from a small thicket, squash, and plenty of zucchini. The garden does need tending to stay healthy. Aside from harvesting from it, weeds need to be pulled, beans and tomatoes need to be trellised, spoiled veggies on the ground need to be tossed away.
❧ Bathing. There is no soap other than what the Elves may have given them but there are hot baths. The water has to be heated on a fire down the hall and carried to the tubs.
❧ Weather/Atmosphere: The air outside and inside is on the warmer side. Even though the stone is cool, the cooking fires warm the air to something comfortable. The air outside in the gardens is warm and sunny, with the occasional cool breeze due to the altitude.

[As he busies himself with exploring or gardening, he thinks about what Dick told him. "That sort of accidental touch? Especially to the face? Can be considered...an expression of romantic interest."]
["Reverse your positions and consider the same things, only reversed."]
[And he thinks about Tim, sounding almost ferocious. "Swap his powers for mine, because I’m not losing him again."]
[Desperate. "I can’t do it again. You don’t know what it was like. I had to stand up and 'say a few words' over and over and over and act like I wasn’t dead inside, so you can stand there and tell me that I have to do it again?"]
[Hopeful. "You’re stifling feelings about me?"]
[Tim makes sure he stays hidden and Kon knows it'll be impossible to find him in that large a castle. He's a freakin' ninja when he wants to be.]
[Their room seems to have been assigned to Tim and himself but he knows that's not enough to draw him there. He'll just sleep in some random perch like a little gargoyle.]
[So he tries to just go about his day, explore and adjust, and then go to sleep that night. He's not expecting to wake up the next day with Tim snuggled close, his arm around his bare chest, his own arm wrapped around him.]
[He makes a little squeak of surprise, high pitched enough most people wouldn't expect it out of him, but also doesn't move away, let go, or try to push Tim away.]

[On the weekends Kon has the Titans, but on weekdays he only has high school, which he puts barely any effort into anyway. So he's learned to farm to handle as much of it as he can, and he's learned how to tend Ma's sprawling garden. Her joints aren't what they used to be. As Kon works on the castle garden, even he's finding it a little hard to be on his knees for so long, now that he doesn't have the invulnerability.]
[Also its hot. At about this time, Ma'd be downright psychic and walk him out a glass of lemonade. She was so caring and thoughtful like that.]
[Boy, he hasn't had a lot of time to think about it but he really misses her. She'd be the perfect person to talk to about the weird dark powers. And the Tim thing.]
[Kon whips off the outer tunic-thingy the Elves provided him and starts doing it all in just the flowier shirt underneath. Much better. Krypto immediately takes the tunic in his mouth and leaps around, dancing out of reach.]
What? No! Krypto, give that back!
[Kon puts down his trowel and dives after the dog, missing and landing heavily in the grass.]
[The dog leaps out of reach and goes over to a flower bed and starts digging, clearly intending to bury it. It's obvious the dog has something like an actual sense of humor because it looks like he's grinning.]
[Kon beats him to it, snatching it back.]
Look, buddy, if you're bored, you can help, okay? See this patch of dirt? Help me dig it up and loosen up the dirt. I can plant seedlings from some of the spoiled stuff and try to get new sprouts coming up. We've got a lot of people to feed.
[Excited to help, especially since he's being told it's okay to dig, the dog immediately goes over to the patch of untilled soil and starts digging.]
[Kon can't help but smile at his silly dog, even as he rolls his eyes, and goes back to work.]

It's not that Cammie's not used to rooming with other people—quite the opposite, really. When she was a wee kid she shared with the twins, because the house only had the three bedrooms. Back home, she shares barracks with three other people (two, now, if she ever gets back...). On the rig, she was paired up with Jaime and that was cool. She's fine sharing space! Prefers it, even!
The problem is just the whole 'screaming awake from nightmares' thing. Back on the rig, with Jaime, she hadn't graduated from startling awake silently to screaming like a banshee. Her poor teammates at home had to put up with her waking them up every other night, and they handled it well, but... rooming alone seems like the polite thing to do, y'know?
So she specifically tries to pick a room that she hasn't seen anyone else claim. Tries being the operative word, here, because whilst she knows damn well which door she just opened, it is not the one she actually steps back out the other side of.
Because that is Stacia. And a Stacia does not an empty room make.
Cammie freezes in the doorway, looks back out into the hall, and alright, cool, that's not actually the part of the hall she was just in.

The roofs are surprisingly easy to get to. He'd half expected some climbing to be needed, but there wasn't any other than climbing stairs. And on the rooftop is--
--a garden.
Dick steps out the door, looking around. The heights don't bother him in the least, so he walks straight to the edge, leaning against the railing.
There's a moment before he looks around, obviously thinking. "Hmm. Needs more gargoyles." Another moment. "Bet those are on the other side, aren't they?"

When she’s seen enough, she finds a door that she’s walked through before and grasps the knob firmly, closing her eyes.
“Excuse me. If it’s not too much trouble, I don’t really care what kind of room I get, as long as it’s private. Please.”
The please is nearly a whisper, almost a plea. She puts into it all the hellish weeks on the groaning rig, surrounded by the static of a thousand moving parts, no doors on the dorms or the showers or the toilets, no place to be alone -
She opens the door, and finds herself at the base of a winding wrought-iron stair. There’s a french door across from her, with a small garden balcony beyond. Three turns of the stair upwards, there’s a small landing, and a narrow door just tall enough for Guts (her tallest friend) to get through, if he ducks his head.
Inside the space is sparse and narrow, enough space for one person besides herself to fit comfortably. There’s a low cot piled with blankets under a wide window with a sill broad enough to sit on, a sturdy stool, and a chest of drawers. On the top of the chest is a key.
She tries the key in the lock on the door. It’s a match. She locks her door with a satisfying click and bows, hand over her heart
“It’s perfect. Thank you.”
She’s just finished unpacking when you knock on her door. You hear it unlock before she opens it.
“What’s up?”

There’s a young man in the pool, about Raistlin’s age, who looks rather like him around the mouth and eyes. In fact, they could be brothers, once you look past Raistlin’s cursed appearance to the actual shape of his features. Except the coldness in Raisltin’s eyes is missing from the other man’s warm blue ones, and the corners of his mouth tile up, not down. This man smiles often, and easily. He’s smiling now, frozen in the water, in middle of saying something.
But when he hears you coming, Raistlin dashes the butt of his staff against the water, shattering the image before you can see more.
“Excuse me,” he mutters, and tries to leave.

Still...she's vulnerable to the deceit of magic. At some point Ange stumbles into the Mirror Room, and there she sees it: the mirror that shows your heart's deepest desire. There's only one thing it'd show.
There's nothing Ange Ushiromiya would want more than her family coming back.
It's what she wants the most. It's what she has prayed for twelve years, since October 6, 1986. Since that fateful day she was told her parents, her dear brother, her aunts, her uncles, her cousins, the servants, everyone was dead. Every day that passed, every day the public's gluttonous hunger for scandal and intrigue increased and they began feasting on the Ushiromiya family's lives, poking into every little bit of their lives, dragging to the light everything that should have stayed hidden out of respect to the dead...every day Ange prayed they'd miraculously be back.
Of course her family with her is what she'd see in that mirror. There was Ange, teary-eyed, huddled against the mirror, always staring at it, hugging herself.
Ange Ushiromiya has said many times she hates deception, that she wants to see what's beyond the surface and see the truth, that everything out there is nothing more than pain and suffering.
Despite that, every single time...Ange Ushiromiya falls to the illusions if it gives her even a little bit of hope.

Open to All -- The Scrying Glass
Nope! This can only be bad stuff.
[As long as he's not blinded by loyalty, he can see the red flags from a mile away. They're going to face a lot of trouble in the road for him to go seek more in the Burgh. He decides to stay far away from it.
The Scrying Glass was found shortly afterwards, Filbo entered and a minute later, he figured out what's going on. The image that popped up in there was crystal clear -- a sign he's extremely homesick already. Could anyone blame him for wanting to be among grumpuses again? Being the only one in the entire world is...it's painful.
Soon he figures out how to look wherever he wants. His thoughts immediately go to a very specific place in the world: Snaktooth Island. That accursed island with the failed expedition. "Come on...!" he murmured when he focused around, looking around so many places on the island...until she finds them.
The scrying glass shows a ruined town. Wooden buildings fell apart. Various furniture already destroyed, the barn collapsed...but it seemed the research tents had been salvaged. That was a good sign! It takes only a moment for him to see them on the other side of the town:
Two grumpuses. A gray one that, with just one glance, it's pretty clear she's far more rugged than Filbo would ever be. Not only she's over two meters tall, her sizable fangs and sharper teeth, and the way she's carrying a tree log, are a stark difference from Filbo. The other grumpus nearby is a little more like him, though. White fur, egg-shaped, but with blunt teeth and a little shorter than Filbo is. They both seem to be in great health, from what he can see!]
They're alive...they're still alive! They're back to normal and they're still alive!
[He's so glad! How not to be? Last time he had seen them they had been left behind on Snaktooth Island, very...very much not like themselves anymore. To see them back to normal, alive, and thriving...it was such a relief.
Only then he turns around, noticing that maybe he wasn't alone]
Oh...hahaha, sorry. I hope I wasn't shouting. Anyway!
[He steps aside]
You know, this thing shows you your home! It's pretty neat, I...how about you show me your home? The stuff you know? I mean, if you wanna -- I hope it's not an intrusive question.
[Is he trying to distract from what he was seeing? Maybe. But it's Filbo -- he'd love to talk about other people's homes and learn about them. As usual, he's eager to know the rest better, and this is a chance as good as any!]

As good as he is with his silver linings, of course, he's also good with a public decorum. A brand of collectedness that may or may not have directly been designed to bleed into stereotypical upper-crust Britishness without a hitch.
All bets are presently off.
There is, from the moment he comes into contact with Howl's half of the castle-- in all its warm, cluttered, whirlwind chaotic glory-- a level of unrestrained delight in Aziraphale not previously achieved by this world. If he'd left any doubts about his preferred aesthetic, consider them settled. ]
Aren't you absolutely darling.

He's the definition of of looking at home while he pokes about the premises. Scoping out crystal growths, looking through papers and desks. He spends a fair amount of time trying to decipher notes to figure out if there's an untenable pocket dimension danger level behind the doors, because he's curious and wants to poke his head in there but also wants to live. Ugh. The inconvenience.
No one will be safe from being pulled into the curiosity wake. If for no other reason than being asked to help read something, or hold a big weird trinket so he can grab the book it was sitting on.
Even the Brugh side has-- a certain charm.
Alright, that's more silver lining speaking than actual opinion. But still. ]

CT honestly didn't realise she missed reading until she plucked a book off the library shelves for pure curiosity's sake, then ended up sat curled up in a corner reading until she was done.
By her time electronic books are by far more the norm, though she can only really talk for her own colony she supposes, and she used to sit and read during downtime when she wasn't picking at random coding projects or doing work. Then things went to hell and she didn't exactly get to read for leisure, then she was in Svelte where all the books were largely lorem ipsum or otherwise nonsense, and now she's here.
Her inherent, if often now buried, curiosity also draws her to the more magical aspects of the collection like moth to a flame. Sure, it's nice to sit and read a normal fiction book, but the books that do strange things are interesting, and she does find herself rather entranced by one of those that seems to be being written and re-written in real time.
"You know, I thought saying this place had it all would be an exaggeration, but if it even has things that aren't done yet then maybe it isn't."

Holly Short
Surprise, she's in the gardens again
By now, anyone who's seen Holly around probably won't be surprised to find that she chooses to spend a lot of her time out on the balconies and rooftops, rather than cooped up inside. She found a room fairly quickly, a small space for a small person, with everything set-up appropriately for someone barely over three feet tall to navigate and a big window for fresh air, but as nice as it is to have her own space, sometimes she'll even fall asleep outside under the sun.
Downtime makes it easier to slip back into her natural, nocturnal pattern, after all. Awake at night, asleep in the day. It's not unusual to find Holly laid out on a rooftop garden, fast asleep until the sound of footsteps catches her sensitive ears and she stirs, sitting up with a groan, "You tall people move too loudly, you know that?"
Or, perhaps you're also up late at night and find a balcony garden's door open, and a tiny figure balanced on the edge of the balustrade edging it, staring out into the Wilderlands. When her head turns toward the sound of someone approaching, the light reflects off her eyes just so to give that strange glow, like a cat's... or, well, off one of her eyes, because the other just so happens to be a human eye, not fairy. Little bit of a weird sight, that one.

Jennifer scolds Brown for pooping on the floor of the hallway.
"Stay here, I will get some toilet paper to clean up your mess."
Taking a few steps long the corridor, she can't help but notice that the bathroom door is open but the entrance is blocked by the crystals that have grown. They can be removed by dancing or singing, the elves said. This truly is the job for her.
Dancing around, she starts singing "Happy Days Are Here Again". Ben Stelvin and the Crooners' version from 1930, not Barbra Streisand's.
"Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
Let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here a-GAAAAAAHHH!"
There, she slipped on the very dog poop she meant to clean. She hit her head on the floor, lying supine with an unbothered and even smiley expression.
"Door's open!" she cheers.

Either way, his desire to socially withdraw has him drawn to this room full of rubble and stacked of furniture. Not that he is a child playing hide and seek, mind you, but this looks like the perfect hiding spot. Sitting in a corner next to a dusty bookshelf, he looks up at the mirror.
Predictably enough, he witnesses his days in Project Freelancer. He sees warmth in the cold metal of the ship, family in groups of agents eating together in the mess hall with petty rivalry as the only thing separating them (for all Price knows, it could be a form of love, wanting to make him and the Director proud - it sure was the case for Agent Carolina after all), progress in the Director's theories, salvation in the endless spawning of Alpha fragments, respect in the intimidated and sometimes concerned looks of everyone watching him do everything flawlessly, purpose in navigating seamlessly through the maddening workload while locked in a tiny room alone, usefulness in his own proud expression when he managed to wake up early from his 'power naps' in order to get back to work so that he could prepare enough material in time, and love in the way the Director seemed to want him do more and more because it meant he believed in him, right?

Ah yes, the windows banging, blood coming out of the sink, the cat in the otherwise empty fridge (curse you, Jasper Gein, that choccy milk bottle was all Henry had left!), the usual chained up door with Walter's writing and an almost tasteful addition of blood coming out of the peephole: outside he can see a maimed ghost version of himself, with the victims' handprints in the background. Home sweet home indeed.
As for Eileen, well, she's still in the other dimension, in the room downstairs of the hospital building. She's in front of the hole that brings Henry back home, maybe she was just about to get in before he was pulled from his own universe?
He turns to whoever has just walked in.
"So time stops in our home universes until we're done here, huh?"

For Bunny
He hasn't had a room that was his outside of wherever the Jorg sent him, and he's beset by the instinct to decorate and complete cluelessness as to where he'd start. When he gets to the room, he jumps onto the bed hard enough to bounce off it slightly, then rolls around like a cat trying to cover it with scent.
The window is, unfortunately, set at an angle where one of the turrets blocks the sun, so Dan sets about figuring out how the lighting will work in the room so he and Bunny can work on their artistic endeavors. There are shelves on the wall where the previous denizens of the room used candles and lanterns to light things, but they're high up.
"Honey?" Dan's standing on tip-toe as Bunny enters the room, stretching to reach a candle on a high floating shelf, accidentally pushing it further and further away each time he gets his fingertips on it. "I need your inches."

Dan's already claimed the territory well enough, rolling on the bed enough to get his smell in it, so that's one thing checked off the list. Removing those candles at least two feet farther from the ceiling is next, and Dan's already on that too, disadvantaged as he is.
"Oh, do you now?" He comes up behind Dan to grab the candle, putting his free arm around Dan's midsection as he passes the candles down.
"That window's over a sloped metal roof to an outside stone stair," he says, nodding to the one over the bed. "No rust on the metal yet but we should check it regularly, in case we want to buff it out. That's the only real fire escape."
He's practical, not sour about it, but also eyeing all the corners of the room where soot's been able to collect.
"Reckon it'll take some mirrors to get enough light on in the evenings for you," he says, already planning to strip some of the unclaimed rooms for them if the castle will let him get away with it.
