MEMORY SHARE ※ 1

MEMORY SHARE

It's during a pause in their day. A nap. An idle moment looking out from the gardens at the landscape passing by below. Taking a moment to catch their breath after a jog in one of the castle's larger magic rooms.

The squad is suddenly connected. Mental pathways locking together, they're forced into one another's innermost beings. Thrust into one another's memory palaces where the mind collects and stores everything that makes them who they are. The core of their beings are only a few steps away and no one can prevent the link.

To make matters worse, it comes with no explanation or no ability to pull out and stop. Once they're through the first memory, perhaps they can find a way out, but they're already witnessing some event from their host's past. And, if they left, who knows whether or not they'd end up accidentally invading another memory palace?

And if they were there, who was in theirs?

[ooc: So, how this works: the memories can either be viewed in spectator mode or the guest can be experiencing everything themselves. The person whose memories are being shown, the host, can watch as their current self or take the form they had of their past self. They can also be invisible until the memory is finished. They can talk about the memory with the "guest" that's visiting.

They cannot control the first memory shown, the player decides that, but they can sometimes control any other memories they'd like to show people after. Of course, there's also always the option of an extreme emotional reaction bringing up other memories unbidden.]

"...but we can make do," Dan finishes for her. "You built Nugget, I'm sure them little parts ain't going to be a challenge for you at all."

He slaps the side of the piano and listens to the reverberation. Strings, felt, something for the hammers, metalwork - this would be a project. But what else are they going to do?

"You're one of my favorite folks here. I'm just always glad I can find good reasons for us to hang out."

"Only one of?" she teases, then immediately snickers and adds, "Guess it'd be hard to beat out the husband for top spot. Nah, but, seriously, uh, same back at you, s'nice having the excuses to spend time hanging out an' doin' stuff."

Dan's fit squarely into the 'big brother figure' slot that most of her team occupy back home, it's nice. She has fun, hanging out, learning stuff, teaching stuff, all sorts. She probably would be going a bit stir crazy by now, even for all the others friends she'd made, without all this stuff.

"This one's gonna take a while, too. Cannae shake me easily at all with our fingers in this pie. "

Dan laughs and lifts his hand with his wedding ring, twinkling his fingers to show it off. He doesn't always wear it on his hand; on days when he's feeling more anxious and flighty, he wears it on a chain around his neck, as if somehow pretending he isn't married will protect Bunny from harm like a benevolent spell. He still isn't fully settled into the idea that Bunny's not about to be killed just because the universe has decided Dan's not allowed to have love in his life.

"Yeah, sorry. Top spot's pretty well-cemented. You might could make a real solid runner-up, though."

He laughs. "Good thing I ain't got any intent to shake you. I ain't never going to get fluent in BSL without you around to drill me on it."

“I’ll take it. Runner up’s not a bad spot to be.” A beat. “Outside an actual competition, then I cannae abide losin’. I kicked one guy off the top of the leaderboard on Datadroid like, at least ten times.”

She’s mostly joking about the losing thing but she is not at all joking about the story. She’s stubborn, what can she say.

“Good to know I’m good for something,” she snorts a laugh. “I’ll get you fluent enough we’d never hafta talk aloud at all if we dinnae wanna.”
